My Dog Runs is Rochester, NY's only dog Running Service for special dogs who deserve special attention

The Process to - GET STARTED - is simple...

1. Vet Check and Confirmation - You should check with your vet to determine that your dog's health is conducive to a fitness program and that his/her Rabies shot is current.

2. Initial Evaluation and Meeting - We will meet with you and your dog to understand the specific needs of your dog. If mutually agreed, we will take your dog for a 5-10 minute walk/run to assess his/her current abilities and fitness level.

 3. Customized Fitness Program - We will create a fitness program that fits your dog’s ability.

 4. Pick-up and Drop-off - We will pick up and drop off your dog at your home - or arrange to meet you at a convenient location!

 5. Running - Each session will start with a warm up walk, which will progress into a jog/run and end with a cool down walk. If at any time we detect signs of dehydration, fatigue, overexertion or discomfort in your dog we will stop immediately.

 6. Water, Clean-up & Treats – We will provide your dog with water and clean-up service before, during and after the run. If you would like to provide treats for your dog, we will feed him/her during rest periods on the run.

 7. Dog Running Logs - We will keep track of your dog’s exercise progression so that you are able to see the health improvements in your pet.

The Run - Before, During and After

  1. For safety reasons, dogs must wear collars.
  2. We start runs at a very slow rate.
  3. We monitor dogs progress constantly while running/walking.
  4. We check dogs’ paws and breathing before, during and after runs to make sure s/he is comfortable, hydrated and having fun.
  5. We allow for bathroom breaks when necessary and we scoop poop
  6. We care for, pet and support your dog, with positive reinforcement and model appropriate behavior.
  7. We give your dog water during and after the run and if agreed upon by you and runner, will give him/her a treat after/during running.
  8. We return your pet to you or take him/her to another service, as agreed upon prior to the run .
  9. We give you a verbal report on your dog's fitness and accomplishments.
  10. We file a report on your dog's fitness program log.

 

Notes: We take one dog at a time, unless otherwise arranged by owner and runner. We'll provide the leash unless otherwise arranged by owner and runner. When the leash is the one always used for running, your dog associates it to running.
